Review & Swatches: Sephora + Pantone Universe Alchemy Of Color Face Palette
Hey everyone! If you remember a few weeks ago, I posted a haul on the Sephora + Pantone Universe Alchemy Of Color Face Palette and some of you guys wanted to see a review on it. If you didn't know already, this palette is on sale on the Sephora website and in Sephora stores for $15 plus tax. According to Sephora, this is "a magnetic compact with six shades to highlight, contour, sculpt, and define your look for the season." The packaging reminds me of the Sephora + Pantone Universe Tangerine collection with the white packaging. Its so magnetic as well. The top comes off and magnetizes shut when you place it over the actual compact. It comes with two bronzers, a blush, and 3 highlights. You can use the bronzers individually or mix them together. The whole time I had this, I used the bronzers mixed together to contour and sometimes as my blush. For the 2 highlights, I would use them separately.
After I bought this, I searched online for reviews (for curiosity sake) and I was surprised that I didn't really find any. Most of the big bloggers had swatches but no words (so no review). I think I only found one review on this face palette and her opinions are totally different from mines. There were a ton of reviews on the eye palette though but I didn't check those out since I don't plan on buying that palette but I did spot it on sale right now on the Sephora website.
Now onto the actual review! When I first saw this in store, I was actually happy to have gotten it. It looked pretty in the palette. Plus I had already owned the blush duo from the Tangerine collection and it was really pigmented. I just wish that I had use it more since its just sitting in my collection. Since this palette had wearable colors and included a bronzer (which you can also double as a blush) and highlighters, I thought that it would be worth trying out. Now when I got home and swatched it, that was a different story. It wasn't that pigmented and whenever I would try to apply the blush onto my cheeks, I would have to apply it over and over (and repeat some more) just for some color to show up on my cheeks. I was a bit sad about that because I just love the colors. I even had to swatch it a couple of times on my wrist just for the colors to show up on the camera. If anyone knows of more pigmented dupes to these blushes, please let me know! I think that if you are a fan of very light, pale blushes, you might be a fan of this but if you are medium to deep skin tone, I wouldn't recommend this at all.
Now onto the highlighters in this palette. These look really pretty in the pans but when swatched, they were just glitter and a bunch of fallout. The only good highlight was the golden one but the other two were like glitter top coats, so to say. The glitters are very fine glitters so you don't get that gritty feeling. The last two highlighters provided no color whatsoever, which was a shame because they look like gorgeous shades. Whenever I would apply the last two highlighters, I would just get glitter everywhere. It would fall all over my face and onto my vanity. Plus it wouldn't even stay on the places of my face where I applied it. At the end of the day, I looked like a glittery mess.
At the end, I just didn't like this face palette. I actually wish that the blushes and bronzers were more pigmented. It just took way too long to get the color to show up on my cheeks and the some of the highlighters were just fine glitter. Just to let you know, I returned this palette last week and haven't regretted it. If you have this face palette, definitely let me know how you feel about it and whether or not you like it?

This looks so similar to the naked flush or whatever blush bronzer highlighter trio from Urban Decay!
ReplyDeleteLOL Thats why I bought it in the first place because I didn't want to spend $30 plus tax on the Urban Decay Flushed from their Naked line. Too bad it isn't as pigmented...
DeleteThat's unfortunate! :\ I always thought it looked quite nice when I saw it on the Sephora website
ReplyDeleteYeah I was disappointed as well. Glad that I was able to return it.
