DIY: Glittered Light Switch Plates

Hey everyone! So I was shopping at Home Depot a few weeks ago when I somehow ended up in the aisle with switch plates. IDK how I ended up in that aisle but while I was there, I noticed that there were some nice decorative ones. While I was noticing that, a little light bulb popped in my head. LOL I remembered that I had some old yellow switch plates lying aound the house. When we replaced them with new ones, I didn't want to throw them out so I kept them all in a baggie for future use. I didn't know why I decided to keep them around but I am so glad that I did. I guess the "hoarder" in me finally did good.

After I bought everything that I needed at Home Depot, I instantly went home in search for the old light swatch plates that I had so I could decorate them. I didn't know how I wanted to decorate them but the girly side in me wanted one with glitter so I of course, took out all the glitter polishes that I wanted to use. You can pretty much do this with any polish of your choosing but I wanted to try this DIY first with my cheapie polishes. LOL
The polishes that I used are:
  • Santee "Pink" (I actually changed this polish by adding silver glitter to it a while back)
  • NYC Long Wearing "105 Starry Silver Glitter"
  • NYC Long Wearing "101 White Lights Glitter"
  • Wet N Wild "Clear"

I actually used the Wet N Wild "Clear" as a top coat because I didn't want to use any of my expensive top coats like my Sechi Vite top coat. It was actually a pretty good top coat but it sure was runny, compared to Seche Vite. What I did was paint two coats of Santee "Pink" over the switch plate and then paint two coats each of the glitter polishes. You could do with just one but I wanted mines glittery as heck so I glitterify it as much as I could. Haha! Since I didn't want to feel the bumpy texture of the glitters everytime I turn on/off my lights, I added one coat of the Wet N Wild "Clear" to finish everything off. I actually love how it turned out. I waited two days for it to completely dry (to be on the safe side) and now I actually have it on my wall in my bedroom. I love how it turned out so much that I will be doing the other light switch plates in my house as well so stay tuned for those. I will be doing different designs for them so don't worry.

If you are tired of your yellow switch plates in your house and don't want to go out and pay the money for brand new white ones (that might just get dirty in the long run with dirty fingerprints and/or dust), you might actually like this DIY. Definitely let me know if any of you guys ever decide to try it out and all the different designs that you created!!

QUESTIONS:
Have you ever done this DIY before?
What do you guys think of my glittered light switch plate?

DIY: Lipgloss/Lipstick/Lip Balm Holder

Hey everyone! Guess what? I had some extra time today and decided to do another DIY. This time I decided to make my own lipstick holder. I actually got inspired by a blog post on someone’s blog. Sorry I can’t remember who I saw this from. I did end up customizing it to my needs. I did sort of go overboard because I ended up making more slots than I actually needed, which you can see in the pictures.

This DIY took me a long time to finish. You definitely need to be patient with these. This lip product holder took me about 4 hours to complete but I am happy with the way that it turned out. I just love how I am not able to stand my lip products up and see the actual label of all of my lip products. I do have more lip products but I actually keep them in an acrylic lipstick stand on my vanity. I was just going to store all of my lip products in the holder that I made but I just love how the acrylic holder looks on my vanity that I just couldn’t part with it. If you would like to see a post on my acrylic lipstick holder, let me know!

This DIY only used up one and a half foam boards and around 4 glue sticks. I don’t really feel like doing the calculation right now but I think this probably cost me under $3USD plus tax to make since all I had to do was buy the glue sticks and foam boards. If you would like to see a more in-depth post on my lip products, let me know. I have been considering on doing YouTube videos on makeup and maybe fashion but I am not sure. What do you guys think? Have you done a DIY?

DIY: "Customize" Your Own Nail Polish

Hey everyone! I just came back from shopping. Don't worry I didn't buy anything, which is probably a first in my book. I was going to buy a nail polish that I saw but I remembered that I already had one similar to it so I didn't end up getting it. I can't remember the brand but it was a gorgeous orangey-coral with gold glitters. When I got home, I sort of regretted not getting it. Since I remembered that the main reason why I didn't buy it was because of a similar color that I had, I went through my nail polish collection like a crazy person, trying to find the one that resembled it.

The polish that closely resembled it was my Sally Girl polish. These polishes are sold at Sally Beauty Stores for $0.99USD plus tax, which I think is a rip off since I could buy a full size bottle of Sinful Colors for $0.99USD whenever its on sale but thats just my opinion. :D I have a couple o Sally Girl nail polishes and somewhat regret buying them because they barely get touched. I have about 4 Sally Girls nail polishes. If you would like to see which ones I have and swatches, just let me know and I will post one up!

The one that I decided to change up (and shown in the pictures) is Sally Girl "812160 Pink It Up." First let me just say that the name does not match the actual shade at all. LOL Also sorry about not taking the picture of the nail polish before I added the gold glitters. I forgot. Instead it is a gorgeous corally- orange shade, which is definitely in trend right now! Since apparently I got bored with this shade and it was gathering dust on my nail polish rack, I decided to change it up. What I decided to do was add GLITTER!! I had some extra glitter lying around that I bought years ago from Claires and decided to use that because I didn't any. I don't know why in some of the pictures, the gold glitter was coming off with a green hint to it because its definitely just plain gold glitter.

To make your own glitter nail polish, using one of your very old and/or inexpensive nail polish, all you have to do is just choose the color glitter that you want to add. I chose gold because I think that the gold looks so pretty with the coral orange. All I did was use a paper, fold it in half, and dump some glitter onto the paper. Once I figured how much glitter that I wanted to add, I just carefully added the glitter through the opening of the nail polish bottle and mixed it all together! Voila, you got a "brand new" nail polish!! Plus the best part is that I can just do one coat of this polish, since it was already opaque, and have full on glitter onto my nails! What do you think about my "new and customized" nail polish? Have you ever tried and/or considered doing anything like thid?

1st DIY: Makeup Storage

Hey everyone! This week, I was feeling very creative and decided to do my first official DIY!! Its not perfect but its good enough for me. I wish that the edges were straighter and everything was clean and cut down clean. I am so happy that I made this. I have wanted to make one for months. I made it out of foam boards, which you find buy anywhere like Michaels, JoAnn’s, and any craft store. I recommend buying the foam boards at either the Dollar Tree and/or 99Cents Store. The foam boards are only $1USD each plus tax there. Whereas if you bought them at Michaels, you would be paying roughly around $2USD plus tax for one foam board.

I mainly bought the foam boards for a DIY Wall Nail Polish Rack that I saw on YouTube months ago but then I saw DulceCandy87's video where she made her own wall nail polish rack out of wood. She customized it to the size that she wanted and it seemed pretty affordable and easy. She just bought some wood pieces and super glued them but I am going to be nailing the wood pieces together because I wouldn't want it falling apart years later. Since I still had the foam boards and wasn't going to use them to make a nail polish rack, I decided to make a makeup organizer to put in my drawers. I just made the storage container simple because this was my first DIY and I didn't want it to be complicated and mess up. Sorry if the pictures are somewhat blurry. I couldn't get my camera to focus for some reason. After completing this, I still have 2 foam boards left so I am going to be making one for my lipsticks next. By the way, this makeup container that I made only used up one foam board so it only cost me $1USD plus tax and maybe 3 glue sticks. I bought a pack 20 glue sticks at the Dollar Tree for $1USD plus tax.

ÿCalculation:ÿ
3 foam boards => $3USD plus tax => 1 foam board = $1USD plus tax
3 glue sticks => $1USD plus tax for a pack of 20 => $0.05USD for 1 glue stick => $0.15USD plus tax for 3 glue sticks

Total cost of making my own makeup container storage: DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!
$1.15USD plus tax (I already had the scissors and glue gun so I didn't need to buy those but total cost would be more if I didn't already have those two extra materials. You can find both scissors and glue gun at the 99Cents Store for $1USD plus tax each.)

Sure, this makeup storage container does take a long time to make it because you have to measure, cut everything precisely, and then glue everything together but in the end, its so worth it because its customized to your needs. If I had went to a store and bought one made out of plastic, it would probably have cost me around $9USD plus tax. I am so happy with my makeup storage and have already started organizing my makeup. I can't stop looking at it sometimes. Its just so nice and always brings a smile to me face but then again, looking at my makeup always brings a smile to my face. LOL Have you ever consider doing a DIY makeup storage? Or anything DIY? What do you think about mines?
